New Chelsea signing Estevão Willian has turned down an offer to remain with his soon-to-be teammates at the Club World Cup, deciding instead to return to Brazil and bid a heartfelt farewell to Palmeiras.

Following his impressive showing, including a goal against Chelsea in the Club World Cup quarter-final, the 18-year-old sensation was invited by manager Enzo Maresca and several Chelsea stars, including Cole Palmer, Reece James, and Moises Caicedo, to join the squad ahead of their semi-final clash against Fluminense in New York.

However, Estevão made the personal decision to fly back to São Paulo with the Palmeiras squad, citing emotional loyalty and the need to properly close his chapter with the Brazilian club.

“I came here with them. And I should go back to Brazil with them,” Estevão told reporters.

“My heart is broken because only we know how hard we worked. But I leave with pride. Chelsea can wait a few more days.”

The winger, already hailed as one of South America’s most exciting young talents, further stated:

“I just wanted to show my new fans in England who I am. I hope to learn and evolve in London, and to make history there too.”
