Barcelona have finally registered Dani Olmo, their €55 million summer signing from RB Leipzig, but not without a significant cost.
The 26-year-old was sidelined for the first two matches of the season due to the club’s ongoing salary cap issues.
Unable to fit Olmo within their financial limits, Barcelona found a workaround by registering him as an emergency injury replacement for Andreas Christensen.
The Danish defender, originally expected to miss just a month due to an Achilles tendon injury, now has medical reports suggesting a potential four-month absence.
This move allows Barcelona to use 80% of Christensen’s salary space to register Olmo, making him available for the upcoming match against Rayo Vallecano.
However, the situation is far from resolved.
Barcelona must find a way to fully integrate Olmo into their salary cap by the January transfer window.
If they fail to do so, they face the prospect of having to unregister Olmo, leaving him ineligible to play for the remainder of the season.
