The naira stood at ₦1,331 per US dollar at the official market and about ₦1,375 in the parallel market on Friday, September 18, 2026, as the currency recorded a further decline against the dollar.

The latest official rate represents a slight weakening from the ₦1,329.56 quoted on Wednesday, putting the naira’s loss at roughly ₦1.44 per dollar over the period.

A similar movement was recorded outside the official market, where the dollar increased from about ₦1,370 on Wednesday to ₦1,375 on Friday.

Based on the two latest quotations, the dollar was trading about ₦44 higher in the parallel market than at the official window.

The difference between the two rates reflects the separate pricing conditions in Nigeria’s foreign exchange market.

Parallel-market quotations may also differ from one location to another and can be affected by individual dealers and the volume of dollars involved in a transaction.

Attention remains focused on the availability of dollars, demand for foreign exchange and the CBN’s activities in the market, as these factors continue to affect movements in the naira.

Meanwhile, Reuters reported on Thursday that the naira was quoted at approximately ₦1,328 per dollar in the official market, while street-market transactions were around ₦1,390 per dollar.

The report said expectations of continued CBN dollar sales and relatively weak import demand were supporting a broadly stable outlook for the currency.

For buyers using the parallel market, the current quotation puts the cost of $100 at about ₦137,500. A purchase of $1,000 would cost approximately ₦1.375 million at the same rate.

The latest figures therefore show that dollars continue to command a higher price outside the official market, leaving a measurable difference between the two exchange-rate segments.
