Liverpool have completed the signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United in a deal worth £125 million, setting a new British transfer record.
The 25-year-old striker has signed a six-year contract at Anfield, bringing an end to a drawn-out transfer saga that saw him sidelined at Newcastle after refusing to play and accusing the club of broken promises.
Liverpool had pursued Isak all summer, with their initial £110m bid rejected before Newcastle softened their stance following the signing of Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart.
The final agreement surpasses Chelsea’s £106m purchase of Enzo Fernández in 2023, according to the BBC.
Isak, who will wear the No.9 shirt, expressed delight after sealing the move: “It’s been a long journey to get here. But I’m super-happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for.”
The Swedish international began his career at AIK before spells with Borussia Dortmund, Willem II, and Real Sociedad, where he scored 44 goals in 132 appearances.
He joined Newcastle in 2022 for £63m and netted 62 times in 109 games, including the decisive goal in their 2025 Carabao Cup final win over Liverpool.
Isak could make his Liverpool debut against Burnley on September 14, after the international break.
