Newcastle United have issued a response to Alexander Isak after the striker’s explosive statement suggested his relationship with the club had broken down due to “broken promises.”
Isak, who has been pushing for an exit amid strong links to Liverpool, took to Instagram on Tuesday night to explain his stance.
He insisted that “when promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue.”
The 25-year-old, who refused to take part in the club’s pre-season tour and sat out their Premier League opener at Aston Villa, made it clear he no longer intends to play for the Magpies.
Liverpool’s £110 million bid for the Sweden international was rejected earlier this summer, with Newcastle holding firm on their valuation and unwillingness to sanction a sale.
In a swift rebuttal, the club released a statement late Tuesday, stressing that no agreements were ever made to allow Isak to leave this summer.
“We are disappointed to have been alerted to a social media post by Alexander Isak this evening,” the club said.
“We are clear in response that Alex remains under contract and that no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer.
“We want to keep our best players, but we also understand players have their own wishes and we listen to their views.
“However, we must always act in the best interests of Newcastle United, the team, and our supporters.
“The conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired, and we do not foresee those conditions being met.”
The statement concluded with the club insisting that Isak “remains part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates.”
