The 2023 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dumebi Kachikwu, has alleged that Peter Obi is considering leaving the ADC coalition, accusing the party of being hijacked to serve the interests of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on Sunday Politics aired on Channels Television, Kachikwu claimed the ADC structure is being repurposed as a platform for Atiku’s presidential ambition, despite being launched as a coalition party to unify the opposition against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to Kachikwu, Obi, and other political hopefuls now realises that the coalition lacks true inclusivity and is instead tailored to favour Atiku.

“The whole ADC structure is being packaged for the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Since I started warning people about what is happening, we can now see that someone like Mr Peter Obi understands that the coalition was packaged for Atiku. From our understanding, he is looking in other directions,” Kachikwu alleged.

Kachikwu, who has repeatedly accused Atiku and other politicians of attempting to hijack the ADC, insisted that the party will not be allowed to serve elite political interests. He pledged to resist what he described as class exploitation in the 2027 polls.

“The 2027 elections will not give room for political leaders to exploit Nigerians. I will do everything within my power to inform and educate the people about their rights and the political manipulation being orchestrated under the guise of a coalition,” he said.
