Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Villarreal was marred by the serious injury to defender Dani Carvajal.
The Spain international confirmed a cruciate ligament injury after being stretchered off in the final minutes of the match.
In a social media post, Carvajal revealed he would need surgery and is expected to miss several months of action.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti expressed concern, stating, “It looks serious. The team is sad, and we are worried about him.”
Ancelotti acknowledged his importance, calling him “a fundamental player” and adding, “We’ll wait for the medical results and plan his recovery.”
Despite goals from Federico Valverde and Vinícius Júnior securing the win, the focus remained on Carvajal’s injury. “It’s a shame,” Valverde commented. “His health is what matters most.”
Ancelotti also addressed Vinícius’ shoulder issue, stating that the Brazilian will undergo tests, but noted it wasn’t as serious as Carvajal’s injury.
Real Madrid are now level on points with Barcelona, but with Carvajal sidelined, Ancelotti faces a challenge as the club considers its defensive options.
