Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has called on his players to “step up” and score more goals following their 0-0 draw with Aston Villa.
The result extends United’s run to three Premier League games without a goal, leaving them with the second-lowest goal tally in the league.
This is also their worst start to a season since 1989/90.
Despite the lack of goals, Ten Hag emphasized positives, pointing to the team’s four clean sheets, including three consecutive away from home.
“We know we have a lack of goals right now, but defensively we’re solid,” he said. “We must be more clinical and ruthless in the opponent’s box.”
United’s attacking struggles were compounded by an injury to center-back Harry Maguire, who left the game with a protective boot.
Amid speculation about his future, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe watching from the stands, Ten Hag insisted he has the board’s support.
“We’re on the same page, working through this long-term process together.”
