A Nigerian man, Amb Chris Iyama, has recounted his harrowing experience after being abducted by suspected kidnappers in Plateau State.

Iyama said he was kidnapped on March 8, 2026, shortly after arriving at his residence in Rayfield, Jos, where armed men ambushed him at his gate. He was forced into the bush and made to trek for hours across forests and mountainous areas while blindfolded and restrained.

According to him, the kidnappers demanded a ₦100 million ransom and gave his contacts a 12-hour ultimatum. After negotiations, he was released on Tuesday night when a reduced ransom was paid in a forested area around Bokkos.

He revealed that he endured physical assault and exhaustion during the ordeal but credited prayers from family, friends, and members of his church for his survival.

Iyama is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Jos and recovering from the trauma.

He said …

“My ordeal in the hands of Fulani Kidnappers:

So it was last Sunday 8th of March 2026, I had left my house at Rayfield-Guratopp at 6pm for a short visit to the family of the late Prof S.S Shykil San. Prof’s daughter Tessy who happens to be my executive assistant had informed me earlier that Sunday that she got admission at the Nigerian Law School Abuja and she will be traveling on Tuesday that week to resume.

I was so excited about the news so i promised after my church service i will stop by her family house to celebrate the good news and to bid her safe trip.

It was a lovely moment for everyone that evening as we all had fun and exchanged some little banter.

At exactly 8:24 pm i drove home to retire for the night, somehow on getting to the junction of my house the spirit Ministered to me to drive off using another entrance to my house but somehow i ignored it and used my normal route.

At 8:44pm i arrived at my gate hunking for my security guy to open the gate, in less than 30 seconds as he was opening the gate for me to drive in, Fulani Kidnappers already waiting for me at the other side of my fence trouped out in their numbers flashing their touch lights on my face i was like who’s playing this rough play this night.

While trying to figure out exactly what was happening, they shouted at me in their native tongues to step out of my car with my hands up, The next thing i heard was gunshots, at that moment it dawned on me that they were Kidnappers.

Within seconds i made a quick decision to open my door, the moment i did, i ran out to the back of my house where I laid low inside the gutter. I gave them like 30 seconds distance before they ran after me searching around the compound. when i thought i had escaped, they came back flashing their touch lights looking for me in the gutters that was how they found me and asked me to stand up pointing guns on my head and hitting me with sticks.

When i stood up from the gutters, one of them i presumed as the leader of the bandits called my name and wanted to be sure if my name was Chris, i immediately affirmed. That was the beginning of my ordeal as we walked through different forests, mountains and crossing rivers from 9:50pm Sunday evening at guratop to 5:30am on Monday morning to somewhere close to bokkos in Plateau State.

At some point i was blindfolded and my hands tied with my neck tie they took from the back seat of my car.

At 3:30am on Monday morning they gave me my phone to call my family or close associates informing them i had been kidnapped. I called my dear friend and brother in church Mr Adams, immediately they collected the phone from me and informed Bro Adams that 100 million ransom or nothing and it must be provided within 12 hours or they’ll kill me.

After the calls, we continued our long trek in the forest to unknown destination. At 6:30am we rested in a tick forest where you can’t find human beings or even attempt to run. At exactly 7am on Monday morning we started trekking again changing location to somewhere around barkin ladi and settled around 7pm on Monday evening where we took a little rest for 2 hours.

We continued our long walk from 9pm on Monday evening down to 4am on Tuesday and rested in another tick forest. I was exhausted because i can’t remember doing 2 hours walk let alone walking for nearly 48hours non stop.

We got to one dirty stream where they fetched water for me to drink at that point i didn’t care, all i needed was just to have some water to regain my strength because i don’t know how long More we have to walk.

As i was in those forests with those bandits, I didn’t know that prayer chains had been activated on my behalf from everyone around the world especially from my church Christ embassy, BLW Unijos Alumni network, Nigerian Region of Campus Ministry, Healing School of Loveworld, Future African Leaders Foundation, Loveworld Corporate Affairs, Inner City mission for Children, my family and many more too numerous to mention.

As prayers were going on, Bro Adams on the other hand was still negotiating the ransom until the bandits were reasonable enough to accept the offer Bro Adams had tabled before them.

Then on Tuesday at 7pm they told Adams where to bring the ransom somewhere in a tick forest and mountains in Bokkos. At 10pm on Tuesday night Adams came with the ransom they had settled and secured my release.

I was beaten black and blue and at some point they wanted to pull the trigger on my head but the prayers of the saints made on my behalf saved me. I was losing faith at some point until i learned that people were praying for me from around the world. I started talking under my breath, speaking in tongues and confessing the word of God over my life. I said under my breath that i won’t die by the bullets of those bandits nor die by their knives.

Indeed God heared and answered the prayers of saints from around the world.

I died many times between Sunday and Tuesday night but Came back to life because God said I’m special before him and I’ll fullfil my destiny in the land of the living.”
