A Nigerian woman has sparked heated reactions online after narrating how she was allegedly assaulted by her fiancé’s shop assistant weeks before their traditional wedding.
The woman shared her experience on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying her marriage ceremony is scheduled for next month and invitations have already been distributed.
What Happened at the Shop
According to her, the incident occurred last Saturday when she tried repeatedly to reach her fiancé by phone without success.
Worried, she decided to visit his shop to check on him.
On arrival, she met his shop assistant, who informed her that her fiancé had taken his brother to the hospital and left his phone behind.
She said she requested ₦600 from the assistant to pay a commercial motorcyclist who had conveyed her to the shop.
However, the assistant allegedly refused, explaining that his employer instructed him not to release money to anyone in his absence.
She claimed the situation escalated when the bike rider began insulting her over the unpaid fare.
Out of frustration, she attempted to enter the shop to take the money herself.
The assistant allegedly slapped her, leading to a physical altercation.
She said her clothes were torn during the scuffle while neighbours recorded videos of the incident.
Fiancé’s Reaction Raises Concerns
When her fiancé later returned, she narrated the incident and expected him to discipline the assistant.
Instead, she said he apologised and explained that the worker “used to smoke”, adding that she should not have engaged in a fight.
She expressed disappointment that no action was taken against the assistant.

“My traditional marriage is coming up next month and the invitation is already out.
On Saturday, I was calling my fiancé but he was not picking up. I decided to go to his shop to check on him.
When I got to his shop, I met his boy and asked him where my fiancé went. The boy told me that my fiancé’s brother was not feeling fine and that he went to the hospital, and that his phone was at the shop.
I asked the boy to give me ₦600 so I could settle the bike man, but he refused, saying his oga told him not to give anybody money if he is not around.
I pleaded with him but he refused, and the bike man was already insulting me. Out of anger, I forcefully tried to enter the shop to take the money.
The boy slapped me and that’s how the fight started. He tore my clothes and his neighbours were videoing us.
When my fiancé came back, I told him what happened. The only thing he told me was sorry, that his boy used to smoke and that I should not have fought him.
I was even waiting for him to punish the boy but he didn’t do anything.
Now people are telling me to cancel the wedding, that my fiancé cannot protect me. Please, I need advice.”
