Premier League leaders Arsenal let a two-goal advantage slip as they were held to a 2-2 draw by bottom-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Wednesday night.
The result denies Mikel Arteta’s side the chance to move seven points clear at the summit and leaves their lead over Manchester City at five points, with Pep Guardiola’s men holding a game in hand.
Arsenal in control early
Arsenal made a fast start. Bukayo Saka marked his new five-year contract with a fifth-minute opener, heading home from Declan Rice’s cross to end a 15-game goal drought.
The visitors appeared comfortable and doubled their lead in the 56th minute when Piero Hincapie finished smartly from a Gabriel pass for his first goal for the club.
At 2-0, Arsenal looked set to close out a routine win. However, momentum shifted quickly after Saka departed following treatment, disrupting the visitors’ rhythm.
Wolves rally late
Wolves responded in the 61st minute through Hugo Bueno, who curled a precise effort beyond David Raya to reduce the deficit.
The hosts sensed vulnerability and pushed forward. Deep into stoppage time, confusion between Raya and Gabriel Magalhaes allowed substitute Tom Edozie, making his senior debut, to fire goalward. The ball struck Riccardo Calafiori and deflected in off the post for a dramatic equaliser.
The late concession stunned Arsenal and reignited questions about their resilience in the title race.
Having finished second in each of the past three seasons, Arteta’s side once again face criticism over their ability to sustain a championship challenge.
For Wolves, the draw offers encouragement despite their position at the foot of the table.
