Sir Jim Ratcliffe has thrown his full support behind under-fire Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, insisting the Portuguese will be given up to two more years to prove himself despite what has been described as the club’s worst season in 50 years.
Amorim, 39, has endured a difficult spell at Old Trafford since his appointment last November.
United have won just 19 of their 50 matches under his management and sit 10th in the Premier League after losing three of their opening seven games this season.
Ratcliffe rules out managerial change
Speaking on The Times Business Podcast, Ratcliffe made it clear that Amorim’s job is not under immediate threat and that the club remains committed to a long-term rebuild.

“He has not had the best of seasons,” Ratcliffe admitted. “Ruben needs to demonstrate he is a great coach over three years. That’s where I would be.”
With INEOS overseeing football operations, Ratcliffe emphasized that the Glazers, the club’s majority owners, will not interfere in managerial decisions.
“It’s not going to happen,” he said. “We’re here with feet on the ground. They’re on the other side of the pond. That’s a long way away to try and manage a club as big and complex as Manchester United.”
Fans frustrated as United Struggle under new ownership
Since Ratcliffe’s investment in December 2023, United have suffered a turbulent period on and off the pitch.
The club finished 15th last season, their lowest league position since 1974, and suffered a humiliating League Cup exit to League Two side Grimsby Town.
