The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed that veteran Fuji musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, was involved in a security breach at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, which contributed to the suspension of two ValueJet pilots.

This came following a viral video capturing the singer narrowly escaping being knocked down by a ValueJet aircraft over a dispute.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, FAAN revealed that the incident occurred on August 5 at the domestic terminal of the airport during boarding for ValueJet flight VK 201 to Lagos.

According to FAAN, the altercation began when aviation security personnel attempted to verify the contents of a flask KWAM 1 was carrying. The singer allegedly refused to comply and proceeded to spill the contents, confirmed to be alcohol, on a security officer.

Despite warnings from the flight captain and the Aviation Security (AVSEC) team, KWAM 1 reportedly insisted on bringing the unidentified liquid substance on board, violating Nigeria’s National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP) and ICAO Annex 17, which prohibit carrying liquids exceeding 100ml through security unless medically necessary and declared.

“The passenger was informed of this regulation but declined to comply. As boarding continued, an airline security officer asked the passenger to step aside for further clarification. He refused and spilled the contents of the flask, which turned out to be alcohol, on the officer,” FAAN stated.

The situation escalated when the flight captain intervened and faced similar resistance. After passengers were fully boarded, she ordered the aircraft doors to be shut. However, KWAM 1 reportedly moved to the front of the plane and refused to leave, prompting the AVSEC crime unit to remove him for further questioning. He was later released.

FAAN confirmed that the pilots began departure procedures from the designated bay without securing the mandatory pre-departure clearance, thereby violating safety protocols.

FAAN has vowed to uphold aviation safety standards, warning that no individual is above the law. The agency also disclosed that a full investigation is ongoing, and those found guilty will face appropriate sanctions.
