Barcelona clinched the Spanish Super Cup with a thrilling 5-2 win over arch-rivals Real Madrid in the final at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The match kicked off with Real Madrid taking an early lead when Kylian Mbappe scored in the 5th minute.
However, Barcelona quickly responded with Lamine Yamal’s equalizer in the 22nd minute, after a fine move in the 18-yard box that led Thibaut Courtois exposed.
The tide turned further in Barcelona’s favour when Robert Lewandowski converted a penalty in the 36th minute, awarded after Eduardo Camavinga’s foul on Gavi.
Just three minutes later, Raphinha added to Barcelona’s tally with a well-taken header, making it 3-1 before halftime.
The first half concluded with an explosive counter-attack from Barcelona, where Alejandro Balde scored in added time, pushing the lead to 4-1.
Raphinha struck again early in the second half, in the 48th minute, to make it 5-1.
Real Madrid managed a consolation goal when Rodrygo scored a free kick in the 60th minute, but it was too little, too late as the scoreline remained 5-2 until the final whistle.
This victory marks Barcelona’s 15th Spanish Super Cup title, showing their dominance in this competition.
Real Madrid, seeking to equal Barcelona’s record, will have to wait for another opportunity to add to their collection of 13 titles.
